[ The gift makes him smile -- from the positions of the mini sculptures to the materials used. Everything was so thoughtful. It's easy to imagine this as a depiction of the two of them, beautiful in its technological simplicity.
Tech places it on his desk to always have this piece of K with him whenever he's working and takes the time to write up a little thank you note to express his appreciation. At the bottom, he leaves K with a musical phrase -- the beginning of a song for him to answer in some way, like a love note in a few neatly drawn measures.
This note will be slipped under K's apartment door sometime in the early evening. ]
[ It takes a frustratingly long while, but eventually Tech receives K's response — in the form of a recorded video of himself, sat at his piano in the bright afternoon light. The thank you note is visible on the music stand.
After a moment K begins to play, completely focused on the music in the manner of someone who isn't used to performing for an audience; he's sharing something very personal, not trying to be entertaining. The relatively simple beginning suggests he may not have strayed far from the the original musical phrase provided by Tech, perhaps still struggling against the hurdle of genuine creativity, but soon... the melody is evolving, flourishing into a fully realised song that he plays without error, his movements fluid and precise and not quite human. Unselfconsciously so.
Once it concludes he looks toward the relic with a wide-eyed smiling expression that's simultaneously elated and somehow shy, almost as though he can't believe what he just did. Nervous, maybe, about what Tech will think of his effort. He reaches toward the relic and the recording ends. ]
[ Tech has no reason to be nervous. This is K's moment and he has no doubt he'll be brilliant. But when he first sees K sit down at the keys, his heart begins to pound in anticipation. He can only liken it to the way it must feel to see someone's very first recital. And as K begins the song, Tech releases the breath that pinned itself to his lungs. Relieved, awed, and so overwhelmingly proud. This is K's work.
He remembers seeing the music on the table during their first meeting. He remembers K's confession about wanting to learn. And here he is, not simply learning but fully excelling with something technical and brilliant and above all else artistic. Long after the video ends, Tech sits in this wonderful warmth he feels. An afterglow. K has come even further than Tech himself when it comes to music...because although Tech can write, craft, and play songs on the piano -- they will always have a style akin to Bach. He can't seem to shake that influence and play something completely his own.
But K found something new. Something his own. Something borne from a phrase they began together. ]
incredible
[ It's the only word he sends through their specialized connection, but with it...no doubt K can feel all the unspoken. All the torrent of emotions. With that single word, K can no doubt know how truly amazing Tech finds him and how full Tech's heart is with love and adoration. ]
